Recalling what has been described as the “biggest unrest in Iran since 1979”, the IYDU calls upon the Iranian government to immediately and unconditionally stop its unacceptable violence and brutality directed against peaceful protesters that have protested the disputed results of the Iranian Presidential Elections from June 12 2009.
Furthermore, the IYDU calls upon the Iranian government to immediately release all political prisoners taken during the protests. The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected, and the IYDU stands united with any individual who chooses to exercise those rights. The IYDU also stands united with the many leaders around the world who have expressed concern over the Iranian electoral results.
Recognizing the right of the Iranian people to have open, democratic elections as well as the right to protest peacefully against blatant electoral fraud, the IYDU furthermore calls on the international society of leaders, and the United Nations, to take a united stand against the corrupt Iranian regime. Echoing French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the IYDU believes the Iranian election results must be subject to immediate nullification, and that no international country should recognize the results until an international probe into the Presidential election’s process has been conducted.
Finally, the IYDU calls upon the United States of America and President Barack Obama to take a more active stance in the conflict, and refuse to negotiate with the Iranian President until a resolution to the conflict has been made. So far, the world has heard very little from the leader of the free world in the matter of Iran. The IYDU does not believe the United States nor any other democratic country around the world should recognize leaders who are elected through fraud and violence. The Iranian election process, having been manipulated from the beginning, did not intend for Mr. Hossein Mousavi or any other possible reform candidate to win. The IYDU instead recalls the words of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy: “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty”.
The IYDU calls for the free world of democracies to stand united against injustice in Iran and support the protester’s just and peaceful protests, and call for the immediate nullification of the election results, and an international probe into the matter.
