IYDU is a global alliance of centre right political youth organizations united by a common desire for greater freedom and less government.

Our member organizations cover the world with 80 organizations from 50 countries. The diverse histories and cultures of those countries are reflected in the politics of the member organizations but our shared commitment to freedom and fighting socialism provides us with a unique bond. Member organizations include those from established democracies with deep rooted beliefs in individual freedom and liberty; others who have known first hand the destructive evil of communism; while those in Belarus and Zimbabwe are still fighting for basic freedoms.

IYDU has four core values, democracy, respect for human-rights, free markets, and free trade. We believe that free markets create free people. A free market is the only system which promotes creativity, support economic growth, and secure individual freedom.

IYDU is strongly opposed to trade barriers between states, as it is free trade that will bring about real economic freedom. Free trade is also the only viable solution to bring the world’s one billion people who live in extreme poverty out of the poverty trap.

IYDU hosts seminars and conferences around the world enabling the political leaders of the future to network and discuss ideology and practical issues, such as campaign techniques and the use of new technologies. We hold two yearly events, our Freedom Forum each summer and our Council Meeting in November/December. Participants from IYDU conferences have progressed to become cabinet ministers, members of parliament and senior advisers in their respective countries.

I’m especially proud to mention our freedom campaigns. IYDU is active in Belarus and Zimbabwe supporting our member organizations and allies with practical assistance and training. The Patron of IYDU, former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, described the role of IYDU as being “to re-preach, practice and earn anew the freedom that we have and that we wish to extend more widely to the whole world.” Freedom depends on more than the battle of ideas. Freedom depends on individuals to fight for those ideas and argue for greater freedom and less government. Join us in championing freedom around the world.
